Well, the digital readout is the main distingishing characteristic. There were 3 generations of G series in the late 1970's- the 1st was the G-9000...G-3000 Line, the 2nd was the G-7500..G-5500..., and the 3rd and last was the G-9700...G-4700. The pushbuttons are a wee bit smaller on the "700" models, as well as the illuminated Sansui logo. Also, the "700" models dont have separable pre-power amp sections like the bigger previous models did- ex: G-9000.
The 9090..5050 Line came out before the G's in 1976. Hard to say which is better, I like and own both. The tuner locking might be better on the 700 series, I havent really did much comparison testing to verify that. I am sure if you use a good antenna, then whichever Sansui receiver you use, you will get good results.
