Bob,
My original 1000A which I bought in 1966 in Japan (and still have. . I completely went through it several years ago). Also have a second 1000A which I bought in 1995, and completely went through it. The Multiplex problem sounds exactly what I experienced on my 1st 1000A years ago.
Check carefully the solder connections inside the FM cage on the underside of the chassis, and especially the ground solder points for the 2 small bases of the 6CW4 nuvistors.
That problem hounded me for several years (I wouldn't give up). . .tried all the things mentioned.
Give it a try and see if your wonderful 1000A won't get a new lease on its FM-multiplex life.
A happy 1000A(s) owner for 38 years. I even have a pair of the original Toshiba 7591s in pretty good condition(according to my Hickok 752A tester).
Good luck,
Robert
: I have a sansui 1000A that works fine except the fm stereo multiplex, which is barely audible. The regular fm works fine. Signal strength is good on fm. The stereo indicator lights when the unit is turned on but goes out as soon as the tubes heat up. I have tested and swapped out all of the fm tubes including the nuvistors. I have checked the circuit bd in the multiplex circuit and swapped out all 3 of those tubes. Does anyone have a lead on this. Thanx. Bob
