Looks like I'm going to my local Hi-Fi repair shop then?
The problem is caused by glue they used in manufacture to hold components in place. As the glue ages it becomes brownish/yellowish and slightly conductive. This normally would not be a problem except they used it in a highly sensitive area of the final amp boards, the differential input stage.
You may notice the problem tracks humidity. The solution is to desolder components and scrape/clean all the glue off the board and component.
