Hi
I have question to ask about a QRX-5500A receiver. It doesn't have any output. I've had it in the shop before but the techs never could fix it. I wondered about their capabilities. Anyway would anyone have any sugestions as to how I might repair this unit? I have an electronics background, but I never have the time to just sit down and "play" with it.

: Hi Ken
: "QuadBob", the guy who knows everything about Sansui 4-Channel gave this answer for QRX-7500/7500A and it might be the same for QRX-5500/5500A. See below:
: The only real difference is that the 7500A was a "hybrid" unit as Sansui transitioned from their discrete component vario-matrix decoder pcbs to their custom designed Vario-matrix ICs that were used in the QRX-7001/8001/9001. There were two distinct ICs they made.....one was the "decoder" IC and the other a "control" IC which enhanced the separation and decoding ability. The QRX-7500A has the decoder IC but not the control IC. The later receivers had both.
: So, the decoder pcbs in the QRX-7500 are the 2047 and 2048 pcbs. The QRX-7500A substituted a 2084 pcb with the decoder ICs on it for the 2048 pcb. Also, in conjunction with this upgrade Sansui changed the labeling on the function select switch from the "QS decoder" and "QS synthesizer" selections to the later "QS", "SQ", and "Surround" selections.
: The QRX- *001 series receivers used completely redesigned decoder pcbs (2087 and 2088) utilizing both of the Vario-matrix ICs.

: : Anyone know the big difference between the QRX5500A and the QRX5500?
