Sounds like bad news to me. I think your transformer is cooking if it actually comes out of the transformer, not " put on " wax to stabilize the wires.
Feel the transformer for heat after 30 minutes of playing normal loudness, it should be warm/hot'ish but able to touch for say 30 seconds. I have a 500A receiver, and should have similiar amplifier section similiar to AU70, 7189A PP, 20 watts output power, I think.
