A Pre Amp is a Control Amp which transfer the signals to a Power Amp. Your Receiver is Tuner with a Pre Amp (you have controls for Treble, Bass, Balance, Input Selector etc) internally connected to a Power Amp (you have LM Speakers connected)In your case (if you want more power) you have to exchange your receiver to a more powerful model or use a combination of Preamp and Main Amp having higher output than your 221 Receiver. Your questiion about remote controlled functions. It depends on the construction of Pre Amp and Remote Control. In other words; the designer of the preamp desire which functions to be controlled by remote
