I presume you own an AU-117. Have you looked on the back of it where the speaker connection terminals are?- usually it says on there what the impedance range is that is safe for the amp to be connected to.
Since the AU-117 is a small, low-wattage model (as compared to the bigger, top model in that line, the AU-717) its preferable that you get speakers which are rated 8 ohms and are efficient (efficient meaning that the speakers dont require alot of amp power for the music to be hear Loud)
4 ohm speakers are a bit more difficult for amps to handle. I feel that most vintage 70's amps can handle them, but the smallest models in the line, or those that are approximately below 40W per channel, give or take a few watts, in your case- the AU-117, I think its probably best to take no risks and get standard 8 ohm speakers.
