Which sounds better, receivers or amp/tuner combo

I currently own a G-9700, and two original Sansui model eights. I have always enjoyed the sound of these units through my JBL L150a's and L120's. I have never owned any of the Sansui AU/TU amplifier/tuner combinations yet I see many people talking about them. My question to anyone is, do they sound better than my old receivers? Before I take the plunge in the future and purchase some of these units, I would like to know if I will be gaining anything by doing so. Thanks..
