As far as I know, it sounds like the model below the alpha 907 which dates to the mid 1990's. I dont think at that point, any were exported to the U.S., I think just Japan and Europe only.
If the one you saw was on Audiogon, and youre interested in it, then simply ask the seller to provide you more details on where he acquired it from.
