: I just purchased a sansui 9090db off ebay.
unfortunately when powered on it starts up in protect mode with the red light flashing. i can grab FM signals but i can only hear them through the right channel when the volume is turned to max. i replaced the fuse in the back but nothing changed.

: does anyone know what might be causing this and how to fix it?

First off;
You should not hear anything out of any channel if the unit is indicating red in the protect mode. The speaker relay would then not be active and no signal could possibly get to the speakers in that condition. The unit in the protect mode would indicate a problem in the main amplifier section and should be looked over first before going any farther. I am currently looking over this very same unit myself, and in the one I have, the only problem was that one of the 180 ohm fused resistors (R34 or R33 on the F-2624 board) was blown out in the driver board. Check that first.

Secondly, if the main amplifier section does work and the protection circuit shows a green light and you still get little to no sound, then it is possible that something is wrong with the Dolby board. Best to get the service manual if that is the case because it can get very confusing tracing where signal is getting lost at.

Good luck
Chris
